African Americans in Classical Music – Part 1

african.americana

June is Black Music Month and I plan to share some of my favorite artists.  But, yesterday after stumbling upon the online radio talk show, the African American Voice in Classical Music,  I knew I had to blog about the contribution of African Americans in classical music.  Patrick D. McCoy, the host the African American Voice in Classical Music is a passionate supporter of classical music and has interviewed vocalists, musicians and composers working in the classical genre.  He recently interviewed the Fisk University Organist, Dr. Anthony Williams, and gospel recording artist, Richard Smallwood, who discussed classical influences in his work as a composer.

AfriClassical.com and the AfriClassical blog are great resources for learning about the history of African Americans in classical music and contemporary artists respectively.
